From the President

The Damah Film Festival in Hiroshima made its debut in 2009 with a theme of ‘’Connecting Hearts to Hearts’’. In 2010, this festival will be staged again in Hiroshima.

The Damah Film Festival is an international short film festival, born in Seattle in 2001. In 2009, at the first Damah Festival in Hiroshima, we welcomed Mr. Ralph Winter, a producer of such films as ‘’X-MEN’’ and ’’Star Trek’’ , and many cineastes including nominated directors and guests gathered in Hiroshima from all over the world.

This festival is a place where the audience and invited guests can enjoy fellowship. There was a warm atmosphere throughout the Hiroshima festival, and people talked about films casually in various languages at screening locations and social get-togethers, held every night. During those times, we really felt that ‘’Damah has come to Hiroshima’’. At the awards ceremony on the final day of the festival, three young and talented Asian directors received awards. The Damah Film Festival in Hiroshima ended its three-day schedule amid warm and moving applause.

‘’Let’s experience these moving feelings again. See you next year at Damah !’’ Many voices called for Damah again and this year the Damah Film Festival will be held simultaneously in three locations: Hiroshima, Fukuyama, and Iwakuni. In addition, from this year, all screenings will be held at local movie theaters. We hope that we can connect more people through films, and this wish is taking shape in the second year of the Hiroshima festival. In closing, this year the Damah film Festival in Hiroshima will be held in November. We sincerely hope to receive your further understanding and support. We are sure that you will enjoy the Damah Festival!

What’s DAMAH?
Damah is a Hebew word meaning "inspirational metaphor." Damah Film Festival explores "Spiritual Experiences" as its theme, seeks films that are focused on portraying human inner aspects such as conflicts that we experience and emotional change, and have been receiving many films from filmmakers all over the world each year. We nominate several films from all those submitted to show at our festival and give awards to the best. Damah Film Festival is one of few short film festivals that puts up a clear theme.
